Fundraising Event
As the populations of Pacific Salmon decline around Vancouver Island, the Pacific Salmon Foundation (PSF) is hard at work with projects such as shoreline restoration. In this project, I focused mainly on the PSF’s Gorge Waterway Initiative, which works to restore salmon habitat located in the waterway that connects Victoria Harbour and Portage Inlet. Below is the event file that was created as a fundraising proposal for the PSF to raise funds for the Gorge Waterway Initiative. Here I propose a “Salmon run,” which is a 5km and 10km run around the Gorge Waterway to raise community awareness, educate the public on their specific role in protecting the waterway, and raise funds. The event plan outlines the PESO method, detailing paid, earned, shared, and owned media surrounding the “Salmon Run”. The long-term goal for the event is to have it become an annual fundraiser where the public can learn about shoreline restoration and community involvement. Lastly, the run will be a zero-waste event, and a portable screen-print shop will be printing salmon designs on individuals’ personal shirts.
